Fryslân is facing major societal, economic and technological transitions. Digitalisation, artificial intelligence, the energy transition, demographic change and a rapidly evolving labour market all demand new knowledge, new skills and new ways of working together. At the same time, these developments create opportunities to make Fryslân stronger, more innovative and better prepared for the future.
That is why educational and research institutions, entrepreneurs, governments and civil society organisations have joined forces. Not from individual interests, but from a shared responsibility for the future of Fryslân. Together, we are building a region where lifelong learning is the norm, where everyone has the opportunity to develop their talents and where education, research and innovation contribute to broad prosperity. We work from a shared ambition and a collective responsibility. Education, research and innovation together form the engine for change and development. Practice-based, applied and academic education and research reinforceone another while maintaining close connections with the labour market and regional challenges. Together, they create a powerful learning and innovation ecosystem where pupils, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, professionals, governments and civil society organisations meet, collaborate and inspire one another.
Our approach is based on the principle of circular learning. Learning is not a linear journey with a beginning and an end. It is a continuous cycle in which knowledge, craftsmanship, skills and experience strengthen one another. Learning gains meaning through practice, while practical experience continuously enriches learning. This creates a dynamic interaction between education, research, work and society.
Our shared ambition is translated into three strategic objectives: a strong knowledge infrastructure, adaptable global citizens, and broad prosperity with Fryslân as a global leader in circularity.
